SFU GLS student Andrew Czink presented a paper, Sound Reasons: Auditory Experience and the Environment, at the International Conference for New Directions in the Humanities in Beijing in June 2009. The paper is now available for download from Andrew’s blog: http://andrewczink.wordpress.com/
(Incidentally, you can find tools to calculate your exposure to noise here.)
Coastline editor Michael Cox presented his paper, Hive and Cairn: Communicating with Nature Through Artistic Intervention, at this summer’s Liberal Studies Symposium at Stanford. The paper was accompanied by a rich Keynote (Apple’s version of PowerPoint) show of art which is integrated with, or situated in, nature. It can be downloaded as a Word file (images appended): Hive essay.
If you have presented a paper, let us know. Even if it has been published elsewhere (such as in Confluence), we can link to it. This is a not-for-profit site; our goal is to promote interdisciplinary writing in the humanities.
If you would like to publish an essay here, write us, or just send it in: see the format guidelines.
Coastline Journal is for all Liberal Studies students and alumni–and we’re looking for more essays!
